People have been anxiously awaiting the next paradigm shift in technology driven by a team with the mystique of the most iconic brands in history. Wait, no longer. Humane is the platform we have been waiting to enter our lives.

Today, we are excited to announce our investment into Humane. We join an exceptional list of investors, including Sam Altman, Lachy Groom, Marc Benioff, Valia Ventures, and of course, Kindred Ventures a Plexo Capital backed venture fund. Humane’s mission deeply resonates with us, which is, “We believe in building innovative technology that feels familiar, natural, and human.”

Humane’s team is one of the most exceptional groups of individuals that we have encountered at such an early stage. This is a testament to the alignment of individual values within the mission. Founded by former Apple veterans Bethany Bongiorno + Imran Chaudhri, Humane is focused on building iconic products that transform technology into an experience to bring people “back in touch with ourselves, each other, and the world around us.” …

The tragic events of last week highlighted the systemic inequalities that Black Americans have faced for centuries since our ancestors were forcibly brought to America. It is so important to understand that many of these incidents are the outcomes of a society that has systemically built an infrastructure of oppression. The methods used tie back over 400 years and are rooted in laws made at the federal, state, and local level; our economic system; our political system; our healthcare system; the media; and individuals and organizations that promote hate and division.

Recently, we have seen the lives of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery as the latest names in a long list of Black Americans who lost their lives because of the color of their skin. The tragic loss would be overwhelming in and of itself; however, the loss amplifies the fact that we still do not have equal justice under law. In addition, we are faced with the COVID-19 pandemic and the loss of over 40 million jobs, both of which disproportionately impact the Black community. …

We are at a critical point in our economic future as the Coronavirus (COVID-19) has wreaked havoc across all aspects of our daily lives. As we enter a bear market, the venture capital and startup community must dive deeper not only into startup fundraising, as Sequoia’s Black Swan note points out, but with general partners (GPs) and their fundraising endeavors.

As most are aware, Plexo Capital invests as a limited partner (LP) into venture funds (synonymous with GPs) and also invests directly into companies. We wanted to share some thoughts on the impact GPs face as we enter this unpredictable time. This analysis will differ depending on where a GP is in the process (i.e., …

I am pleased to announce Plexo Capital’s recent closing on a $42.5 million fund. Alphabet, the holding company of Google, is the lead investor, and other investors include Intel Capital, Cisco Investments, the Royal Bank of Canada, Kapor Capital, the Hampton University Endowment, and The Ford Foundation.

A key feature of Plexo Capital’s mandate is to invest in venture funds led by women and people of color, which is a strategy to generate alpha while also positively impacting the level of diversity and inclusiveness in the technology ecosystem. The underrepresentation of these groups and their lack of access to capital and investors is well-documented: fewer than 1% of venture capital-backed founders are black; Latinx founders made up 1.8 percent of those receiving funding, and only 11% of venture capitalists are female. …
